LONG SHOT WORKSHOP @ SFS
In conjunction with Sydney Film School, the Australian Film Festival organises a day-long workshop conducted by the country’s leading one-take filmmakers.
Workshop is free! and will take place on Saturday 27th of February, from 10am to 4pm at the Sydney Film School (82 Cope St, Waterloo 2017).
Challenge yourself to tell a story succinctly and effectively in one continuous take – no cuts, no editing and no second chances.
Ben Ferris, Executive Director of the Sydney Film School, and DOP James Barahanos will take you through the process and challenges of devising and shooting a one shot film around a pre-determined character scenario. Students will participate in the planning and filming of the one shot and discuss the effectiveness of the choices they have made.
For the last 12 years, Ferris and Barahanos have worked together as director-DOP team creating groundbreaking films with unusual structural and visual choices. Their short films ‘Ascension’ and ‘The Kitchen’ have been internationally acclaimed and won several awards including Grand Prix at the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Short Film Festival held in Tokyo 2005 and Grand Prix at the One Take Film Festival in Croatia in 2004.
In 2007 the filmmaking team founded the ‘Artemis Projects’ production company, and made their first feature film ‘Penelope’, the first Croatian-Australian production. To this date the film has screened at 2008 One Take Film Festival in Croatia, the 56th Pula Film Festival (Croatia 2009) and the 2009 Sydney Underground Film Festival.
On March 6 2010, the film will screen as part of the inaugural Australian Film Festival.
