In a friendly atmosphere, the new students were welcomed with delicious food prepared by the dedicated staff of the school, while the continuing students told great yarns about life at the Sydney Film School.
And if it was cold outside, it certainly didn't affect the warmth of the evening.
Armed with great anecdotes the assembly departed, full of confidence for their future as filmmakers and ready to come up with even grander tales of adventure for the students starting next year.

"[...] There was a Brazilian on the panel who [...] stated quietly that what he looked for in a film maker was a willingness to take risks, an intense interest in the world and abiding respect for its inhabitants. I thought that sounded pretty good, and when my turn came I found myself agreeing with the Brazilian.
Risk taking, intense interest in the world, and respect for your fellow man: they come very close, do they not, to Courage, Curiosity and Compassion, so imagine my satisfaction on discovering last week on the Sydney Film School website - that courage, curiosity and compassion happen to constitute the School’s motto. I congratulate whoever thought them up, not least because they provided me - after some fairly fruitless cogitating - with a ready made topic for this speech."
